Hello and welcome to Your Next Chapter Coaching. I’m Marylisa Manning, RN, BSN, CLC and Inner Child Advocate. My coaching practice has several foci: folks in transition who are in the process of rebuilding after major life changes; folks building a life as they begin recovery from substance abuse, and a Spiritual coaching program called Divine Family for those who are interested in a Spiritual practice designed to help you lovingly and rapidly heal deep and long-standing childhood wounds.
I grew up in suburban Northern Virginia; mine was a typical middle-class upbringing. I’ve been a registered nurse since 1976 and worked in a wide variety of settings. Most of my career has been spent in home care, working one on one with patients and families. The focus was on teaching and coaching patients in managing their disease. My own experience with recovery began in 1989, and so I bring this perspective when working with coaching clients.
Building a sober life can be overwhelming. Taking responsibility for setting goals and working toward them is often a new experience for people who have been stuck in substance abuse. A new life is available and attainable by continued, sustained effort. Coaching is a way of learning to set realistic goals while being held accountable by someone else while you are moving toward them. Along with my coaching skills I will be happy to share my life experience as it seems useful.
I’ve always been aware of a spiritual basis for life. During my active years in addiction, I drifted away from that Spirituality, but I blamed organized religion for my disconnection. In sobriety, I realized that the Source of all life and power never abandoned me, and was ready to welcome me home. That began my spiritual path towards real connection. I found in the Divine Family program a way to connect directly with Spirit, and to forge a connection with myself to heal all the wounds that I tried to assuage with alcohol. I’d come full circle: I was home. I now teach this to others who are interested in putting their lives on a practical spiritual basis, and who want to heal the old hurts by caring for the little child who is waiting inside.
