Next Chapters

It occurs to me that life really is a journey, and like all journeys, it’s full of starts and stops, detours and roadblocks. I started out in suburban Virginia, planning to have a life of adventure. I ended up in New Jersey, a place I’d never have chosen, but that chapter of my life was long, full of growth, change and different kinds of adventures. The first detour was a divorce–my marriage was not a happy one, and I found myself a single parent living in a state I’d never have chosen. However, as that chapter developed, it became my home. Life went on, and eventually found love again, and married someone who became my best friend.

Two years ago, our children grown, my husband and I decided to start another chapter of life. We packed up, left our jobs and moved to the beach in Delaware. Here we’ve started the next chapter, and we are writing it individually and together.

As I think about the starts and stops, the decisions and changes, I realize that in the end, the most important creation each of us makes is the story of our journey. Every chapter we write has joy and pain, excitement and quiet. I invite you to write your next chapter. What will it be?
